We offer a wide range of after-school clubs and activities.

Blagdon School has a thriving Chess Club which meets twice a week. The club competes in local tournaments and some members have competed at County and National levels via the Somerset Grand Prix Series.

OTHER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

Musical opportunities

We are also particularly proud of the musical opportunities we offer our children. All pupils get the opportunity to make music. For those with a particular interest in music a variety of peripatetic music teachers provide tuition in recorder, violin, keyboard, piano, woodwind and guitar. The School has a good collection of musical instruments for the use of pupils.

Our commitment to music is further enhanced by the skills of Miss Pearson, the Class 2 teacher, who is a music specialist.
We have to make a charge for tuition in all instruments except for the recorder which is taught by Miss Pearson.

The Christmas carol service, Harvest festival and performances to the elderly are an important part of our music making at Blagdon.

Outdoor Activities Centre

All children are given the opportunity to attend an outdoor activity holiday during their time in Class 4 at Blagdon School. This experience encourages self-reliance and the ability to work as part of a team.

After School Activities

For a small village school, we have a wide range of after-school activities in which children are encouraged to participate. They vary depending on the season, but include football, swimming, netball, cricket, tennis, drama, cookery, gardening and recorders. The school runs a very successful Chess club and children have competed in tournaments at County and National levels and regularly play matches against local schools.
A small fee is charged for some clubs as they are run by external teachers or professional coaches.

The School Grounds

Over the last few years the school has been redeveloping the school grounds. Large scale outdoor play equipment has been installed, and the area in front of the school house has been redesigned to provide a stimulating play area which provides many opportunities for children to exercise their imagination.
We are very grateful to the PTA for funding these improvements.

With a Lottery grant and funding from the PTA, the front playground has been developed to provide a pond and raised beds for planting - these improvements provide an excellent resource for the study of living things and form part of our eco school target.  Each class has its own a raised bed and every child enjoys the time spent in the garden, studying ‘minibeasts’ and other wildlife, as well as the experience of growing vegetables and flowers.
